Dr. Porteus is physician-scientist trained in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology who is an Associate Professor at Stanford University. His research program has focused on genome editing of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells to develop cell based autologous cures for patients with genetic diseases of the blood and immune system. He has served on National Academy Study Committee on the Science, Ethics, and Governance of Human Genome Editing and currently serves on the NHLBI advisory panel for sickle cell disease.
